Munson Medical Center and three surgeons from Grand Traverse Surgery were recognized recently as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence.
Surgeons achieving the recognition are Roche Featherstone, Michael Nizzi and Steven Slikker.
Surgeons at Munson perform three types of bariatric surgeries: the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, the Lap-Band procedure and the vertical sleeve gastrectomy. The designation from the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery follows a thorough review of the hospital's program and physician practices.

Robert Barry, a member of West Shore Medical Center's medical staff, has successfully completed requirements for recertification in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery.
Barry joined West Shore Medical Center in 1995 after completing his medical education at Wayne State University. He spent 15 months in practice with Casper Orthopedics Associates at the Wyoming Medical Center in Capser, Wyo. He returned to the medical staff at West Shore in 2006.
