Kiwanis Club Students of the month


The Kiwanis Club of Traverse City has named its students of the month:

-- Maple Kirby, a senior at Traverse City West Senior High School, is the daughter of David Kirby and Martha Topol.

Kirby has been a member of the Traverse Young Symphony Orchestra, the Traverse City West Key Club and is currently a member of the Traverse City Martial Arts Academy, West symphony and marching bands and the National Honor Society. She earned an equestrian varsity letter, band letter and honors academic achievement letter. She performed in the Northwestern Michigan Children's Choir, West musical productions and was a National History Day finalist.

After graduation, Kirby plans to attend the University of Michigan.

-- Christy Shoaff, daughter of Bob and Cheri Shoaff, is a senior at Kingsley High School.

Shoaff is a member of the National Honor Society and is a four-year honor roll member. She has received a citizenship award, Michigan Promise Scholarship, Dean's Scholarship, Presidents Excellence in Academics Award, Golden Eagle Award and Michigan Community Blood Center Scholarship. She has participated in volleyball, softball, marching band, band and the snowboard club.

After graduation, Shoaff plans to attend Cornerstone University to study biology with a health science emphasis.

-- Sarah Herpst, daughter of Joe and Gail Herpst, is a senior at Traverse City Central High School.

Herpst is a member of the National Honor Society, Model U.N. and debate team. She is graphics editor for her school newspaper and is a member of the film club. She has volunteered for the Father Fred Foundation.

After graduation, Herpst plans to study political science at Alma College and intends to become a lawyer.

-- Ian Wolf, a senior at Traverse City Central High School, is the son of Timothy and Michele Wolf.

Wolf is president of the National Honor Society, a staff sergeant in the United States Young Marines and a member of the varsity soccer team. He is a staff writer for the school newspaper and captain of a TBAYS soccer team.

After graduation, Wolf plans to attend Northern Michigan University and would like to study literature in Ireland. He hopes to become a novel writer.

-- Seth Hoard, son of Marc and Julia Hoard, is a senior at Traverse City Central High School.

Hoard is drum major for the marching band and a student director for the thespian group.

After graduation, Hoard plans to study music performance and theology at Hope College for two years before studying in Australia. He hopes to become a pastor for Antioch Restoration Ministries International.
