Leelanau Cheese wins with raclette

DETROIT -- When John and Anne Hoyt from the Leelanau Cheese Company submitted a single entry of their award-winning raclette cheese for the 13th time, they knew that theirs was no average cheese.

The Hoyts raclette took first place for the seventh time in eight years at the Michigan State Fair's Dairy Foods Competition.

The Grand Champion Cheese was sold to United Dairy Industry of Michigan for $4,000 at the State Fair Youth Livestock Auction held during the fair. The auction raised $135,000 and will support agriculture scholarships in Michigan.

This year, six Michigan cheese manufacturers submitted 24 varieties of cheeses.

For details, or to order this award-winning cheese, call Leelanau Cheese Company at (231) 271-2600, or visit www.blackstarfarms.com.
