Cook's Corner: Morsels wins dessert award

Also, new tasting event set for equestrian fest

Jeff Neidorfler, of Morsels, won the Taste-Testers Choice Award at the Desserts Uncorked fundraiser, held April 21 at the City Opera House.

All the chefs created desserts using Girl Scout cookies; proceeds from the event went to the Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore.

Neidorfler used Samoas and Trefoils in his dessert, "Short and Sweet."

Shawn Botruff, of the Bluebird, took home the People's Choice award with his "Hawaiian Hula Girl Bars."

As part of the Horse Shows by the Bay Equestrian Festival this summer, there will be a "Taste of Traverse City" fundraiser, scheduled for July 12.

The money will benefit the Equestrian Aid Foundation, a nonprofit organization providing basic medical needs for those suffering catastrophic illness or injury.

The party and auction will feature food from the Jolly Pumpkin Tavern and Brewery (formerly The Bowery), Cafe Habana, Blue Tractor Cook Shop, North Peak Brewing Co. and Bowers Harbor Inn, as well as microbeers from the Jolly Pumpkin and wine from Bowers Harbor Vineyards.

Only 250 tickets will be sold. Tickets can be purchased by check through the horse show by marking the total number of tickets needed on the hunter/jumper horse show entry blank, at the EAF Web site, www.equestrianaidfoundation.org or by calling (800) 792-6068.
