More than 50 musicians at folk fest

All-acoustic event is Sunday at Building 50

TRAVERSE CITY — The Great Indoor Folk Festival is Sunday, Feb. 12, at the Grand Traverse Commons.

The event is free and musicians will be playing in alcoves and on stages throughout Building 50 as well as at Left Foot Charley and Another Cuppa Joe. There will be more than 50 musicians and all will be playing acoustically. Donations are welcome and musicians will have CDs for sale.

The fourth annual event runs from noon to 5:30 p.m.

Organizers say they hope to match last year's record attendance of 1,200 people.

"By having it on Sunday, we're able to have a festival that is not competing with a lot of other events," said Adair Correll, of the Northern Michigan Songwriters in the Round, co-hosts of the event. "This is a chance to ... hear a lot of great, original music. It's also a chance to get kids inspired to take up music themselves.

"We put out a call for musicians each year and the slots are all booked up within a day or two. It's become a very prestigious event for the region's acoustic music crowd," said Correll.

The Folk Festival is the second event of the weekend at the Village, which will host the Microbrew and Music Festival on Saturday, Feb. 11.

"It's a big weekend for the Commons this year," said Correll.
