Beulah pig roast
Beulah — More than 300 pounds of pork will be roasted in a custom-built pig roaster for the Beulah Boosters' pig roast fundraiser Saturday, Aug. 11.
Fire-roasted pulled pork and side dishes will be served from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Beulah Park Pavilion. The cost is $10 a plate; carry-out meals available.
Proceeds will go toward village needs related to the newly renovated Beulah Beach Waterfront. For details, visit www.mybeulahboosters.org.
Fermented foods
Traverse City — The Grand Traverse Circuit, 225 W. 14th St., is offering a series of classes on cultured foods — foods that have been fermented using probiotic bacteria.
Classes meet from 6 to 8 p.m. and include "Fermenting Your Own Ketchup and Mustard" Thursday, Aug. 16; "Fermented Salsa" Thursday, Sept. 13; and "Apple Kraut," Thursday, Oct. 18. A Cranberry Chutney class will be held at a date to be determined in November.
