Cook's Corner: Hone mushroom ID skills

Grass River Natural Area is offering a series of "Michigan Mushroom Forays" to help participants develop their mushroom ID skills.

Forays meet from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the natural area, County Road 618, Bellaire, and start with an identification skills "brush up." The Saturday, June 16, class is on oyster mushrooms.

The Mission Table, 13512 Peninsula Dr., on Old Mission Peninsula has opened The Tasting Room to showcase its artisan-crafted distilled spirits, handcrafted beers and locally produced wines. The landmark also is home to the Peninsula Room and Jolly Pumpkin Restaurant & Brewery.

The Tasting Room hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. A $5 tasting fee includes five samples in any combination of spirits, beers or wines. The fee can then be used as credit toward the retail purchase of spirits, beers and wines. For details, call 223-4222 or visit missiontable.net.

Right Brain Brewery will hold a grand opening Saturday, June 30, at its new location, 225 E. 16th St. Part of the celebration will be a "Skatterbrain Challenge" race-style scavenger hunt through downtown Traverse City to raise money for TART Trails. Martha's Leelanau Table, 413 N. St. Joseph St., will offer summer cooking classes. The $95 cost per person includes the recipes, a glass of local wine and a multi-course dinner.

The schedule is: July 9 with special guest cook Rose Hollander; July 16 "Gluten-free Dinner and Dessert;" July 23 "Martha Goes Belgian;" July 30 "Farm Market Dinner;" Aug. 6 "Spanish Tapas, Pintxos and Paella;" and Aug. 13 "Croatian Feast."
