MUSKEGON (AP) -- Coaches at Montague and Ovid-Elsie don't take Cody Kater and Chris Robinson for granted.
They are impact players who've made their marks in high school football.
And that's why they were chosen the Associated Press Division 5-6 co-Players of the Year for their standout senior seasons.
"I think, right now, Cody Kater is our once-in-a-lifetime guy," Montague coach Pat Collins said about his dual-threat quarterback. "At Montague, you never know if we'll have another one. A guy like Cody comes around only so often."
The same can be said of Robinson, Ovid-Elsie's electrifying running back.
"This is my 33rd year, and he's the best player I've ever coached," Marauders coach Jerry Goosen said. "He can run for power and he can run for speed. He has the cuts and the vision. He's got all the tools."
Kater, who leads defending Division 6 state champion Montague into Friday's title game, has committed to Central Michigan.
Kater (6-foot-4, 210 pounds) produced another stellar season leading the Wildcats' spread offense. In 12 games, he completed 133-of-198 passes for 2,442 yards and 32 touchdowns, while rushing for 740 yards and 10 scores.
Robinson (6-0, 201) led Ovid-Elsie to a Division 5 state runner-up finish last season and the school's first 9-0 record this season since the towns merged in the 1960s. Robinson, who also excelled at defensive back and punter, carried 304 times for 2,692 yards and 39 TDs. He finished his career with more than 6,000 rushing yards.
Robinson etched his name in the state record book in many rushing categories, setting a new mark of 28 consecutive 100-yard games. He has not decided on a college.
Kater has company on the honor squad with the selection of teammates Matt DeJong and Drew Pineda.
DeJong, the Wildcats' big-play receiver, made 47 catches for 1,068 yards (22.7) and 16 TDs in 12 games.
Pineda anchored the Wildcats defense at middle linebacker. The unanimous All-State selection recorded 65 tackles, including 45 solos, in the regular season.
The other running backs are Flint Beecher's Torrey Cordell, Wyoming Kelloggsville's Chris Brown, Carrollton's Robert Essex and Millington's Justin Stutler.
The speedy Cordell helped Beecher to a 9-0 regular season, rushing for 1,546 yards and 19 TDs.
Brown combined speed and toughness en route to 1,229 yards and 17 TDs in seven regular-season games for the 9-0 Rockets.
Essex generated 1,778 yards on 229 carries and 21 TDs as Carrollton went 8-1.
Stutler set a school record with 1,521 yards and 16 TDs for 8-1 Millington.
Muskegon Heights' Willie Snead IV, another explosive dual-threat performer, was voted to the other quarterback spot. In 12 games, Snead passed for 2,737 yards and 25 TDs and rushed for 1,120 yards and 15 scores as the Tigers won a school-record 10 games and advanced to the state semifinals.
Other receivers are Wyoming Kelloggsville's Michael Richmond and Ecorse's Eddie Dancy. In eight games, Richmond had 45 catches for 997 yards and 16 TDs. Dancy had 56 catches for 898 yards and 11 TDs.
Earning spots as linemen are Jackson Lumen Christi's Leland Ewing (6-1, 210), Lake City's Mitch Thompson (5-10, 205), Charlevoix's Bill Ivan (6-5, 260), Clare's Cameron Allen (6-3, 200), Freeland's Eric Neuenfeldt (6-1, 175), Gladstone's Kent King (6-5, 270) and Flint Beecher's Demontea Huggins (6-0, 190).
Ewing is a unanimous selection and a three-year starter for the top-ranked Titans, who will play for a Division 5 title on Saturday.
Ivan has committed to Indiana and King to Central Michigan.
The other linebackers are Morley Stanwood's Tyler Havens, Pinconning's Nick Foco and Madison Heights Madison's Percy Johnson. Havens (6-1, 235) led the Mohawks to a 9-0 season, rushing for more than 1,000 yards and making 94 tackles. Foco (6-5, 215) had 72 tackles, including nine tackles for loss, and five sacks. Johnson, a unanimous choice, registered 80 tackles and four sacks for Millington.
Filling the defensive back spots are Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian's Matt VanderVliet, Suttons Bay's Noah Reyhl and Vassar's Troy Hecht. VanderVliet doubled as an offensive guard and recorded eight interceptions. Reyhl had 96 tackles, 18 pass breakups and four interceptions and Hecht totaled 55 tackles, five interceptions and three fumble recoveries.

Muskegon Oakridge's Jamie Potts is the All-State kicker. Potts, who also plays quarterback and defensive back, made 7-of-10 field goals with a long of 51 yards and converted 30-of-32 PATs.
Hartford's Shane Sullivan is the punter after averaging 44 yards per boot, with a long of 70 and 11 punts inside the 20-yard line.
Wyoming Kelloggsville's Don Galster is the Coach of the Year. Galster, who is in his 20th season, led the Rockets to a 9-0 record, the school's first outright league title since 1971 and its first playoff victory.
