Prep Roundup: Sabres soccer perfect in NW

BUCKLEY -- Jason Send scored his 10th and 11th goals of the season to lead TC Christian to a 5-0 Northwest Conference win over host Buckley.

The Sabres are 5-0 in league playand 7-2 overall.

Taehoon Kim, Peter Mustard and Jonathan Wheatley scored the other three goals while Taehoon, Brian Wierenga, Scottie Raetz and John Galoup added assists.

Jonathan Rudolph earned the shutout with three saves for Christian.

Chippewa Hills 3

Andrew Worden and Evan Urchick each had two goals and an assist as Benzie Central topped Chippewa Hills, 5-3.

Collin Towersey had the other goal for the Huskies (4-3).

Jacob Bergmann and Samuel Hahn split time in goal for Benzie.

Petoskey 3
TC Central 0

Petoskey scored two minutes into the contest and twice in the second half en route to a 3-0 Big North Conference win over TC Central.

The Trojans are 3-4-1 overall, 0-2 in the BNC.

The Central JV played to a 1-1 tie with Petoskey. Nick Wright scored on an assist from Kevin Trippe in the final four minutes for the Trojans (4-2-2, 1-0-1). Josh Lance made eight saves for Central.

Grayling 2
East Jordan 1

Grayling scored 3 minutes into overtime Thursday for a 2-1 Lake Michigan Conference win over host East Jordan.

The Red Devils scored first with about 90 seconds left in the first half when Morgan Tinney found Andrew LaCount for a score.

The Vikings scored 5 minutes into the second half before playing even the rest of the way.

Nick Sendek had 19 saves for Grayling while Jordan Hagen had 17 saves for East Jordan.

FOOTBALL

TC Central JV 35
Alpena JV 0

Traverse City Central broke three plays for 60-yard touchdowns Thursday for a 35-0 win over host Alpena.

The Trojans (2-1) had 60-yard runs from Dylan Roe and Dillion Lizenby, who both added another touchdown from the red zone.

Colin Casey also connected on a 60-yard pass to Jack Stevens and Lizenby made all five PATs to complete the scoring.

TC Central defensive tackle Vai Taula had an interception while Ryan Adams and Steven Hushak also highlighted the defense.

ST. Francis JV 20
East Jordan JV 0

The host Gladiators moved to 2-1 on the season with a 20-0 shutout over East Jordan in Lake Michigan Conference action.

Tyler Hansen scored on a 1-yard run in the first half before Dillan Seidert found Riley Bullough on a 20-yard pass in the third quarter.

Justin Oln capped the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 35-yard run. He also punched in the two-point conversion.

Nathan Lodge led the defense with a fumble recovery and a blocked punt.

Alpena freshmen 16

Traverse City Central didn't crack this time.

After losing its first two contests after leading at halftime, the Trojans let another intermission lead slip away before a fourth-quarter comeback to top Alpena 26-16.

Joe Prokes returned an interception 40 yards for a touchdown to put Central up 20-16 early in the fourth after a 12-0 halftime lead turned into a 16-14 deficit.

Prokes threw a 35-yard TD to Tyler Clark to ice the game.

Clark also had a 10-yard TD run and Ryan Verschuren a 5-yard scoring run and two-point conversion for Central (1-2).

Brandon McKee had an interception and Prokes had two picks. Dylan Kelly, Angel Mariani and twins Brad and Nick Keller led the defense. Kelly and Mariani had fumble recoveries.

VOLLEYBALL

Mancelona 3
Bellaire 0

Host Mancelona rolled to a straight-set win over Ski-Valley foe Bellaire Thursday.

The Ironmen (6-5-3) won 25-20, 25-9, 25-21.

Mancelona played tough defense as Lisa Luton had 27 digs, Maggie Shanahan added 20, Sam Watkins had 20 and Andrea Allen tallied 19.

Elk Rapids 3
Harbor Springs 1

Elk Rapids defended home court Thursday with a four-set Lake Michigan Conference win over Harbor Springs.

The Elks won 25-22, 18-25, 25-19, 25-23.

Olivia Morrison had 14 assists and four digs while Jessie Spoor had five kills, six blocks and four aces.

GT Academy 0

Traverse City Christian stayed perfect in the Cherryland Conference Thursday with a straight-set win over host Grand Traverse Academy.

The Sabres (2-0, 18-2) won 25-12, 25-21, 25-12.

Kara Romstadt led Christian with 14 assists, six digs, and four aces off 19-for-20 serving.

Joni Yahr added four aces and five digs, Lindsey Kostrzewa had eight kills and Arielle Kanitz had five kills.

Forest Area 3
Gaylord St. Mary 0

Forest Area improved to 2-0 in the Ski Valley Conference with a 25-10, 25-22, 25-19 victory over Gaylord St. Mary.

Chelsea Strine had 10 kills and 12 digs while Kassie Magee and Maize Johnson had eight kills for Forest Area (12-8-2).

SWIMMING

East Grand Rapids 103
TC West 77

Powerful East Grand Rapids swam to a 103-77 dual meet victory over Traverse City West.

Amy Brunner won the 100 freestyle for the Titans with a state-qualifying time of 56.81.

Sarah Brunner was second in the 100 butterfly (1:04.35) and 100 backstroke (1:07.74) as was Erin Holstad in the 200 freestyle (2:04.07).

Holstad teamed with Elly Maleski, Amy Brunner and Kate Reed to take second in the 200 freestyle relay. (1:45.9).
