FRANKFORT -- Frankfort clinched the Northwest Conference championship outright Friday night with a 49-0 whitewash of Benzie Central.
The Panthers (6-1, 5-0) also qualified for the playoffs with the victory.
Quarterback Wade Luxford ran for three touchdowns and passed for another for the Panthers. His scoring runs covered 21, 46 and 41 yards. He connected with Andrew Newbold on a 30-yard scoring pass. Luxford finished with 108 yards in five carries. He was six of 10 passing for 96 yards.
Kyle Brouillet ran for two more scores. Dan Nugent, who rushed for 100 yards, took one in from 28 yards. Chris Tondu had a five-yard scoring run. Alex Gokey kicked seven extra points.
Max Banktson led the defense with 14 tackles. Jordan Lentz added 10. Scott Tousley had an interception.
MORE NORTHWEST
Suttons Bay 35
Glen Lake 6
Nick Porritt scored on runs of 24 and 26 yards to spark Suttons Bay to a 35-6 Northwest Conference win over Glen Lake.
The win kept Suttons Bay's (4-3, 3-2) playoff hopes alive.
Porritt finished with 98 yards in 10 carries.
Ryan Konieczka hauled in a 60-yard scoring pass from Jeff Lott. He also tallied on a three-yard run. Konieczka had 70 yards in nine carries.
Noah Reyhl scored the other touchdown for the Norsemen on a two-yard run. Lott kicked all five extra points.
Quarterback Nate Sneed's two-yard run accounted for Glen Lake's scoring. A 25-yard Sneed to Elliott Clark pass set up the score.
Reyhl, Pete Bumgardner and Gabe Gallagher all had 10 tackles for the Norsemen. Reyhl also had an interception and fumble recovery.
Shawn Ritola had 10 tackles and John Bunek and Tim Hubbell eight for the Lakers (2-5).
Kingsley 18
Mesick 9
A physical battle in the trenches went Kingsley's way in an 18-9 Northwest Conference win over Mesick.
The Stags moved to 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the league with the win while the Bulldogs fell to 2-3 and 2-5 overall.
"It was a very physical, line of scrimmage game," Stags coach Jason Leonard said. "They are a lot better than their 2-4 record (coming in) indicated."
Kingsley had a nine-yard touchdown run from Maurice Sims, who also carried 24 times for 136 yards.
Justin Mueller recovered a fumble in the end zone for a Stags touchdown and also punched in a three-yard score in the fourth quarter to ice the game.
Mesick's Cullen Kelly scored on a 70-yard run. The Bulldogs also had a second-half safety.
Gabe Collins had 11 tackles for the Stags while Tommy Sedlacek had an interception.
LAKE MICHIGAN
Grayling 52
Kalkaska 0
Grayling senior Jimmy Osga threw for a school-record six touchdowns in a 52-0 Lake Michigan Conference win over Kalkaska.
The Vikings (3-2, 5-2) jumped out to a 36-0 lead at the half and were able to play the entire roster after the break against the winless Blazers (0-5, 0-7).
Osga was 24-for-35 passing for 351 yards and six scores. It pushed him to 25 touchdowns on the season and 2,255 yards -- both school records.
Eric Ferrigan hauled in six passes for 105 yards and three TDs while Tyler Steffey caught six passes for 102 yards and two scores. Cody Myers also had seven catches for 101 yards and a TD.
Tyler Hanson ran for a 14-yard touchdown and tallied 54 yards total.
Defensively for Grayling, Zach Wolcott had eight tackles.
Luke Gillespie had 5.5 tackles for Kalkaska while Craig Miller had 4.5 and an interception. Miller also threw for 89 yards.
Grayling will host Traverse City St. Francis next week while Kalkaska will play Charlevoix.
Elk Rapids 46
Charlevoix 14
Elk Rapids rattled off 39 unanswered points for a 46-14 Lake Michigan Conference win over Charlevoix.
The Elks (7-0, 5-0) trailed the Rayders (3-4, 2-3) 14-7 in the first half before going on their streak.
Derek Sentieri was 8-for-11 passing for 176 yards. He threw for two touchdowns and also ran for two more.
Tyler Smith ran 13 times for 161 yards and had a rushing and a receiving touchdown. He also paced the Elk Rapids defense with 14 tackles.
SKI VALLEY
Forest Area 30
Johannesburg 22
Justin Gordon intercepted a pass in the end zone in the final minute of play to preserve Forest Area's 30-22 Ski Valley win over Johannesburg-Lewiston.
The win qualified the Warriors (6-1) for the playoffs for the second year in a row.
Gordon finished with 246 yards in total offense for Forest Area. He rushed for 176 yards and a score -- from 41 yards out -- and he returned a kick 70 yards for a TD.
A.J. Freeman added 138 yards and Tyler Denike 111 on the ground. Denike had touchdown runs of 43 and 21 yards and kicked a 41-yard field goal.
Gordon and Denike led the defensive charge for the Warriors.
Central Lake 48
Bellaire 0
Travis Rogers and Jared Danbert each rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns to help Central Lake top Bellaire, 48-0.
Rogers ran for 119 yards and touchdown runs of 2 and 56 yards while Danbert added 109 yards and scored from 42 and 14 yards away.
Rogers also hit Danbert with a 33-yard touchdown pass and returned a punt 55 yards for a score. Nolan Howes' 1-yard plunge closed out the scoring for the Trojans (6-1, 5-1 Ski Valley).
Rogers led the Central Lake defense, which had five sacks, with 12 tackles with Howes and Danbert adding nine. Matt Kent had seven stops and Mike Barnett five.
Sean Payne had 26 carries for 119 yards for Bellaire (1-6, 1-5). Payne accounted for 195 yards in total offense.
