Library board discussion tabled

Issue will be taken up at meeting in two weeks

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse county board shelved discussion to reconfigure the Traverse Area District Library Board.

Board Chairman Larry Inman this week delayed the discussion for two weeks after some commissioners told him they wanted to consider an alternative proposal. The board tabled the item until its meeting Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. when Mayor Michael Estes is available to provide the city's input. Any changes would require approval from both the city commission and county board.

Estes and a county board committee proposed the city give up one of its three TADL board appointments to the county. In exchange, the county would eliminate its appointment of a county commissioner and make its five appointments from geographic districts.

The alternate proposal would increase the TADL board to eight members and retain a county commissioner seat.
