TCL&P to provide $1M toward bayfront

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Light & Power agreed to give up to $1 million for a bayfront bathhouse.

The city utility board this week voted to provide the money, Light & Power Executive Director Ed Rice said. The lone dissenting vote came from board Chairman Mike Coco.

The city requested the funds to help pay for a bayfront redesign. The project could break ground this fall.

Light & Power board members also agreed to support an efficiency review of the utility, Rice said. The review is expected to determine if Light & Power is properly staffed, among other things. Light & Power likely will reimburse the city for the review, Rice said, depending on cost.

The city commission is scheduled to consider both the operations audit and the bayfront payment at its Monday meeting.
