SUTTONS BAY — Margaret Ann Ervin, 81, of Suttons Bay, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013 at Grand Traverse Pavilions.
Margaret was born on March 9, 1931 in Leelanau County, the daughter of Louis and Adeline (Kolarik) Forton. She attended St. Michael's grade school and Suttons Bay High School. After graduation she attended Central Michigan University.
Margaret married Ron Ervin from Empire Air Force Base in 1952. They had two daughters. They made their home in Flint before moving to Calif. where she worked as a cafeteria manager for a large high school. She finished her degree for hotel and restaurant management in Calif. She later joined her husband at Aerospace Corp. as controller of classified documents.
Margaret and Ron toured Europe for their 25th wedding anniversary and after retirement, they returned to Suttons Bay to a new home that her husband designed on Stony Point Road where they lived for 22 years. They recently moved into Glen Eagle Senior Apartments in Traverse City.
Margaret's hobbies have been knitting, playing her organ, bridge, collecting cookbooks (over 1000) and trying out new recipes and some charity work.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Ron; her youngest daughter, Alicia (Gary) Walker of Ark.; brothers, Louis (Merle), Robert (Pat), and Tom (Karen) Forton; sisters, Jane (Ray) Cracchilo and Cecilia (Tom) Hamer; sister-in-law, Mary Forton; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; oldest daughter, Michelle Gould; and brother, Andy Forton of Suttons Bay.
After a happy married life of 60 years, the funeral mass in Margaret's honor will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 29, at St. Mary's Church in Lake Leelanau, with a rosary to be prayed at 10 a.m.; visitation at 10:20 a.m. Burial will be at St. Michael's Cemetery in the spring. Revs. Michael Janowski and Leonard Paul will serve as celebrants.
