McClary hits 1,000 points at Olivet
OLIVET -- Bellaire junior Michael McClary became the 13th player in school history to score 1,000 points, as the Olivet College men's basketball team defeated Calvin College, 84-61, Wednesday at The Cutler Event Center in Olivet.
For the game, McClary had 25 points and 10 rebounds for his 12th double-double of the season and the 33rd of his career.
Calvin led briefly in the first half by two points, 9-7, at the 15:53 mark. Olivet took the lead back at 10-9 after McClary drained a free throw to complete an old-fashioned three-point play.
The Comets then went on a 25-4 run to take a 22-point lead with 5:33 left before halftime. During that streak, Olivet made 11-of-14 baskets, including eight straight. At halftime, the Comets led by 18 points, 44-26.
At the 13:42 mark of the second half, McClary made a jumper, which put him over the 1,000-point plateau. The Knights would cut their deficit down to 13 points, 62-49, with 9:41 left in regulation. The Comets extended their lead to as many as 27 points with 2:05 remaining.
YMCA hosting 3-on-3 tournament
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Grand Traverse Bay YMCA will host a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for boys and girls in grades 3-6 on Feb. 20.
Start time for the event is 3 p.m.
Cost is $100 per team and includes a T-shirt for all players.

Glass starts in U.S. exhibition in China
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State women's volleyball seniors Alisha Glass (Leland) and Megan Hodge competed around the world with the U.S. Women's National Team on Tuesday in a training trip to China.
The Evergrande Volleyball Club dealt Team USA a 25-20, 25-14, 25-19 loss in an exhibition match in Guangzhou, China.
Hodge led the U.S. women with 15 points all on kills, as well as nine digs. Glass contributed a kill, block and an ace as the starting setter.
Glass and Hodge guided the Nittany Lion women's volleyball team to an unprecedented third straight NCAA title in 2009. Glass and Hodge finished their Penn State careers with a 142-5 record to be the winningest graduating class in program history.
Roger's Run slated for Feb. 20
TRAVERSE CITY -- The second annual Roger's Run, a 30-mile memorial snowmobile ride in memory of Roger Dumortier, will be held on Feb. 20.
The two-hour ride will start at 10 a.m. at the Hoosier Valley Staging Area on Blair Townhall Road and proceed on Trail 510 to Peegeo's Restaurant at 525 High Lake Rd., where a complimentary lunch will be served from noon to 2 p.m.
Riders are asked to bring a $5 cash donation and any non-perishable food item or clothing. All proceeds will be donated to the Father Fred Foundation.
