CHEBOYGAN -- Cheboygan State Park may grow by nine acres.
The Michigan Natural Resources Commission will meet Feb. 4 in Lansing to discuss the transaction. Rebecca Humphries, state Department of Natural Resources and Environment director, will announce whether she plans to approve purchase of the additional tract for the park in Cheboygan County's Benton Township.
The land would be purchased from the Little Traverse Conservancy for $38,000. It's near the Lake Huron shoreline along the west side of Seffern Road. Money would come from the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund.
Additionally, Humphries may decide whether to sell 76 acres of state land in Emmet County's Bliss Township at public auction. The sloped property is landlocked by private land along Munger Road and would require a minimum $84,000 bid.
