GAYLORD -- An elderly couple was bound, blindfolded and robbed in their home in a private golf community south of Gaylord.
Authorities were called around 1:15 a.m. Thursday to a home in the Michaywe subdivision, where two male suspects broke in, bound the couple with tape, blindfolded them and spent two hours robbing the residence, state police said.
Both property and money were stolen. The victims were not physically injured but were threatened by one of the men, authorities said.
"One suspect did tell her if she screamed, he'd kill her," said Det. Sgt. Kevin Day, of the Gaylord post.
The male victim was able to chew through the tape and called police from a neighbor's home, Day said.
The suspects -- believed to be in their 20s or early 30s -- wore masks and were armed with knives. They entered the home by removing a screen on an open window while the elderly couple slept, police said.
"We are advising people there to keep first-floor windows closed and locked at night," Day said.
Investigators believe the suspects used a vehicle to leave the scene with the stolen items. Anyone with information is asked to call the Gaylord post at (989) 732-5141.
