Keep the 'Promise'

Once again, the state leadership has proven their callous disregard for the future of our education system. The Michigan Promise Scholarship was a reward for students who worked hard, studied hard in high school and wanted to continue their education in the state of Michigan.

My daughter is a junior at Grand Valley State University and was counting on the balance of her award to fund her education this year. By not adding the Michigan Promise funding to the education bill, the state has said again, "We do not care about education."

Contact your representatives and senators and demand they keep their promise to the students of Michigan!

Address these rascals

In response to the Record-Eagle's article, "Septage tank owners face tax," it's great our township supervisors and county commissioners can agree on allowing Grand Traverse County citizens to pay for someone else's mistakes. Who was responsible for the study that determined usage? Who was the project superintendent responsible for quality control?

Why would one pour concrete in February with daily temperatures well below zero degrees Fahrenheit? That's extremely cold for concrete. What was the urgency knowing the consequences? Then the design was flawed; apparently it wasn't built according to design specifications, and the design was improperly administered.

Who's responsible, what happened to that concept?

I suspect all roads lead to the county, which would explain why no investigation as of yet. Before we forward the Grand Traverse County tax-paying citizens yet another added expense, shouldn't we first address these rascals? Those involved in this fiasco must be held liable first.

Homeowners shouldn't have to bail out the county's misguided contacts with incompetent workmanship.

We need an independent study to determine who's responsible. Is this a job for the attorney general? Call your township supervisors and county commissioners today; ask why we citizens are liable and how that was determined?
