A nasty example
In reference to the editorial "cartoon" printed on the Oct. 26 editorial page: It depicted two trick-or-treat children walking away from Dick Cheney's home saying "Better look for razor blades."
In this world of egregious behavior toward those who don't agree with one, this is an especially nasty example of over-the-top editorial comment.
This is the kind of thing that causes people to think of their newspapers as irrelevant and out of touch with mainstream U.S.A. It cannot have been funny even to the most committed Cheney basher.
I'd like to think that the Record-Eagle would be above printing something so malicious. Oops, apparently not.

Cuts not working
Obviously the strategy of tax cuts to stimulate Michigan's economy has been a colossal failure. For years Michigan schools, health agencies, police and fire protection, and township governing bodies have endured cut after cut resulting in the decimation of programs and services, not to mention jobs lost.
The damage done to our schools and other services will take years to recover.
It is disgraceful that our leadership continues to play "gotcha" politics, pointing fingers at each other and doing nothing to improve the situation. Shame on them! Our leaders must bear responsibility, work cooperatively and take action. More cuts that will further damage the State of Michigan are not in our best interest! It is time for bold leadership from our legislators and our governor.
We are facing economic catastrophe. How much longer must we endure this irresponsible bipartisan political squabbling? Our future is hanging by a thread.
Replacing some of those tax cuts is one way to increase revenues to prevent further harm to the people of Michigan.
