Blazers fall short

in Holiday Hoops

KALKASKA -- Travis Schuba scored 24 points, but Kalkaska fell short of a title in the Kalkaska Holiday Hoops Tournament.

The Blazers defeated Gladstone in the finals last year, but fell 63-49 on Wednesday night.

Schuba added eight rebounds and five steals and Colton Gelinas had 13 points.

Kalkaska is 4-2, while Gladstone is undefeated for the season.

Olympian Kitt to visit Crystal Mtn.

THOMPSONVILLE -- Olympian A.J. Kitt will be part of the first NASTAR Qualifier of its kind in the Midwest, to be held Jan. 8-10 at Crystal Mountain Resort and Spa.

The NASTAR (NAtional STAndard Race) Open allows up to 400 participants to compete in 46 different categories based on age, gender and discipline (alpine skiing, telemark skiing, and snowboarding). The top three finishers in each category during the Jan. 9 competition advance to Winter Park, Colorado, March 25-28 with the overall winners from the Jan. 10 Race of Champions receiving complimentary registration to the National Finals.

Race entry is $89 for adults, $69 for children (12 and under) and includes discounts on lodging, food, beverages and services at Crystal Spa. Register online at nastar.com.

A series of clinics will be held Jan. 8 and receive on-course video analysis from Kitt. Registration for all six clinics is $89 (includes lunch) and can be done by calling (800) 968-7686, ext. 2000.

Frozen Foot Race slated for Jan. 16

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Frozen Foot Race, a 5-mile road race in Traverse City, will be held Jan. 16.

The $15 entry fee ($20 on race day) includes a winter hat. The race starts at 10 a.m. at Eastern Elementary School.

Bigfoot Snowshoe Race is Jan. 23

TRAVERSE CITY -- The Bigfoot Snowshoe Race will be held Jan. 23 at Timber Ridge Nordic Center in Traverse City.

The race, which features 5K and 10K courses, costs $15 ($20 on race day) and there's a $2 discount for USSSA members.

Awards will be given to the top 5 placers in each age group.

Beginning runner class offered

TRAVERSE CITY -- Running Fit will conduct a 10-week class this spring aimed at beginner runners.

The class run froms March 22 to May 24 on Monday nights from 6:30-7:35 p.m. at Running Fit and costs $90 per person or $150 for two.

Traverse City Central cross country coach Lisa Taylor will lead the program that is designed to help people learn to run for fun and fitness.
