TC may ask for help with dams

TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City commissioners will decide whether to ask the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for help with city-owned Boardman River dams.

Commissioners will gather for their first regular meeting in 2010 on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Governmental Center, 400 Boardman Ave. in Traverse City.

They will consider whether to authorize City Manager R. Ben Bifoss to send a letter asking the corps to complete a feasibility study and formulate a plan to remove Brown Bridge Dam and modify Union Street Dam, efforts to restore fish and wildlife habitat, improve degraded water quality and restore natural flow regimes.

Also, commissioners will decide whether to approve a proposed master plan for the Grand Traverse Commons. The plan is available online at www.ci.traverse-city.mi.us/City_Commission under the link for agendas.
