TRAVERSE CITY — A woman convicted of abusing her horses is back in jail after she violated probation.
District Judge Michael Haley on March 2 sentenced Danelle Round to 14 days in jail and two years probation on one misdemeanor count of abandoning or being cruel to two or three animals.
District Judge Thomas J. Phillips on Thursday sent her back to jail for 45 days for violating probation, court officials said. Round failed to appear for drug screens, a condition of her probation.
Round in February pleaded guilty to the charge after authorities found malnourished horses on property on M-113 near Fife Lake in January. Two malnourished horses were euthanized, and five others were taken off the property for rehabilitation.
The two euthanized horses remained unburied on Round’s property for more than a month, prompting further complaints, though both eventually were buried. Haley later ordered that Round and her daughter, Nikita Booth, forfeit the surviving horses.
