Charges in alleged assault at Wal-Mart

TRAVERSE CITY -- A Blair Township man faces criminal charges for allegedly stealing from Wal-Mart and assaulting two store employees when they apprehended him.

Joshua Allen Core, 21, faces a misdemeanor charge of retail fraud for the theft of two electronic dog collars on July 17. He was detained by two employees when he left and allegedly assaulted them while being restrained at the Garfield Township store, said Grand Traverse County Sheriff Thomas Bensley.

Core faces two additional misdemeanor charges for the alleged assaults that resulted in minor injuries to the store workers. He faces up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine, if convicted.

Core is set to be arraigned Monday in 86th District Court in Traverse City.
