Prep Roundup: Glad tennis nearly perfect

TRAVERSE CITY -- St. Francis came close to perfection Wednesday.

The Gladiators swept all eight flights -- winning seven of those without dropping a set -- en route to claiming the four-team St. Francis Invitational.

The Gladiators finished with 24 points, Traverse City Central Black 10, Bullock Creek 8 and Bay City Central 6.

Flight winners for St. Francis included Mac Hughes, Michael Elliott, Mac Corcoran and Alex Primeau in singles and Sean Paquet-Newton Calcutt, Alex Rushlow-Josh Quinlan, Josh Kurtz-Pat Wilson and Chris Miller-Stephen Siddall in doubles.

St. Francis is at Elk Rapids today.

Forest Area 2
Clare 1

Cody McVaugh made 11 saves to help Forest Area earn a 2-1 win over Clare in Northern Michigan Soccer League action.

Clare took the lead at the six-minute mark before the Warriors (2-0, 2-0 NMSL) scored on a penalty kick by Jesse Richards to even it up midway through the first half.

Justin Jensen scored three minutes before the half off a Tommy Runkel assist for the winning goal.

Forest Area hosts Kalkaska on Friday.

Leland 5
Bellaire 0

Josh Wright scored two goals as Leland notched its first win of the season with a 5-0 victory over Bellaire.

Eli Saffell, Dustin Maleski and Dylan Jolliffe also scored goals for the Comets (1-2).

Paul Jetton recorded his first varsity shutout in net for Leland, which travels to Suttons Bay on Monday.

Benzie Central 2
Manistee 2

Benzie Central and Manistee ended 90 minutes of play deadlocked and both walked away from Wednesday's game with a tie.

It was Benzie's second tie of the season in as many games.

Brandon Baesch and Andrew Worden scored goals for the Huskies, with assists coming from Samuel Hahn and Julian Hills.

Manistee's Rybicki and Edward Postma scored goals and goalie Patrick Meagher made fifteen saves.

Benzie opens up conference play Monday at home against Traverse City Christian.

Glen Lake 2nd in 4-team match held at Mistwood

Farwell won a four-team match at Mistwood, with Glen Lake coming in second.

The Eagles shot a 454, while Glen Lake had a 495, just one shot ahead of the Traverse City West JVs. TC Central's JVs shot 522.

Farwell's Emily Rohde was medalist with a 78.

Glen Lake was led by Lilly Christiansen (115), Molly Binsfeld (124) and 128s from Lena Cruz and Macy Henry.

West's top scores came from Brittnay Fox (121), Sarah Reese (122), Emily Dean (126) and Laura Krieber (128).

Central was paced by Ally Schultz (115), Maddy Ober (130), Teagan Knowles (137) and Lauren Truschke (140).
