Dye fires ace in Central golf win

CHEBOYGAN -- Freshman Courtney Dye broke her pitching wedge warming up for Monday's Cheboygan's Invitational.

It didn't matter.

Dye, a freshman, recorded a hole-in-one en route to a career best 82 to lead Traverse City Central to a 21-stroke win. Dye finished third overall.

"She's the first girl we know of in the Big North Conference that's ever had a hole-in-one," Trojan coach Lois McManus said.

Central had a team score of 342. Traverse City West took second with a 363. The meet was a Big North Conference counter -- the fifth of the season.

In addition to Dye's 82, Chelsea Guoynes shot a 77, Rachel Jurik 88 and Kelly White 95 for the Trojans.

West's Gaby Muller was medalist with a 74. Kali Sanford had an 89, Sara Reese 99 and Jessi Thomas 101.

Central's Black team finished eighth with a 433. Nicole Gunn fired a 106, Lauren Truschke 108, Teagan Knowles 117 and Nonie Tompkins 125.
