EAST LANSING -- Traverse City Central junior Chelsea Guoynes fired a 76 Saturday to finish third overall in the Division 1 state golf finals at Michigan State's Forest Akers West course.
Guoynes posted a two-day score of 160. She shot 84 Friday.
As a team, the Trojans placed ninth with a 755 (385-370).
Rochester, led by medalist Christine Meier, won the title with a 685. Saline was second at 709. Meier was the individual champion with a 147.
The third-place finish by Guoynes is the best by a Trojan since Lois McManus took over the program 13 years ago.
Central knocked 15 strokes off its Friday round.
In addition to Guoynes, Courtney Dye had a 187 (93-94), Rachel Jurik 202 (104-98), Maria Frick 206 (104-102), Kelly White (119) and Katie Madison (114).
"The girls made huge improvements," McManus said. "They played much better (Saturday). I was proud of them."
Traverse City West's Gaby Muller, competing as an individual, shot 170 (87-83).
In Division 4, Harbor Springs placed 15th with a 958. Grosse Ile won the championship with a 719. Andi Shepherd led the Rams with a 217 (105-112).
