TRAVERSE CITY -- With regionals less than two weeks away, Traverse City Central coach Lois McManus pushed her team harder this week.
At Friday's Traverse City Central Invitational, the Trojans pushed back.
Led by a 3-over-par 75 by medalist Chelsea Guoynes, Central was able to recapture the tournament title at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club. The Trojans have taken first place in 11 of McManus' 12 seasons as coach.
The Trojans shot a 363, which was 14 shots better than defending champion TC West. Alpena was third with a school-best 381.
"You bet it's nice to get it back, absolutely," McManus said. "I worked the girls hard this week. They did a lot of drills that they haven't done for a long, long time.
"I told them now is a good time to peak. It's time to start really playing."
Guoynes led the way with a round that featured a 3-under 33 on the front nine. Taylor Schultz added a 92, followed by Rachel Jurik (95) and Rachel White (101).
Elk Rapids senior Kara Newhouse, playing as an individual, was second overall with an 87.
