HOLLAND -- Traverse City West placed 17th* in the Division 1 state finals.
The Titans were led by nine-place finishes by Elly Maleski in 100 backstroke and the 200 medley relay team of Shelby Newhouse, Sarah Burnner, Meghan Cepela and Maleski.
Maleski set a new school record with her time of 59.69 seconds in the backstroke.
Newhouse was 15th in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.89) and Maleski was 12th in the 50 free (24.92).
"We made the most of the entries we had," coach Toby Tisdale said. "I'd say this is the second best we've done in the last 20 years. We've got a strong group coming back."
The Titans have 17 of 23 swimmers coming back.
Traverse City West's finish in the Division 1 state swimming final was originally incorrect in this article. The Titans scored 34 points to finish 17th overall. They finished in the top 15 in four events, including Ellie Maleski's school record in the 100-yard backstroke (59.69).
