TRAVERSE CITY -- David Hanrahan and Eric Rivard received their sticks and a little extra over the weekend.
The pair of Traverse City West standouts went to the Hockey Weekly High School All-State Awards banquet in Livonia, receiving miniature hockey sticks to commemorate their selections to the Division 1 all-state team.
Rivard was a first-team pick, and Hanrahan was on the second team.
After receiving their awards, the two were able to meet former Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jiri Fisher, who was the event's featured speaker.
"It was really cool," Hanrahan said. "He was up on stage giving a speech and later talked to all of us. Eric and I talked to him afterward."
Fisher's speech centered on perseverance.
"It was inspirational to everyone there," Hanrahan said.
Rivard and Hanrahan -- who also collected the sticks for TC Central all-state selections Dane Macdonell and Hunter Kelly -- approached Fisher after the speech.
"He said he loves camp because they treat everybody so well," Hanrahan said. "He was glad to see some guys from up north could make it."
A senior, Hanrahan has already been accepted to Michigan State, but is keeping his options open if something involving hockey comes up.
He's drawn interest from several Junior and D-3 college hockey teams.

The defenseman had 27 points in 27 games and posted a +26 rating for the Big North Conference champion Titans.
Rivard, meanwhile, is looking at some Junior options after a record-setting season for the Titans, but could be back in a West jersey for his senior season.
The junior scored a 32 goals and had 55 points, both TC West single-season records.
