Record-Eagle hires newspaper veteran

TRAVERSE CITY -- A veteran of 20-plus years in the newspaper industry is the Traverse City Record-Eagle's new advertising director.

Beverly Schultz-Joyce will take over management of the newspaper's display and classified advertising divisions. She's worked the past four years at Trace Communications LLC, a consulting firm that provided various printing and revenue-enhancement services to newspaper companies. It's a branch of CIK Enterprises, of Indianapolis.

She also is a former publisher of the Hendricks County Flyer, of Avon, Ind., a publication of Community Newspaper Holdings Inc., parent company of the Record-Eagle. Schultz-Joyce also worked as a regional sales manager for CNHI in the Indianapolis area.

"My first love is the newspaper business; it's what I do," Schultz-Joyce said. "I felt it was time to go back to the newspaper business, and my first call was to CNHI."

Record-Eagle Publisher Mike Casuscelli said Schultz-Joyce "brings a vast amount of advertising knowledge" to the newspaper.

"She has experience in advertising management and as a newspaper publisher, along with her recent experience in the printing and direct mail business," Casuscelli said. "She has a track record of success in small and large markets."

Schultz-Joyce said she's anxious to familiarize herself with the staff and the newspaper's advertising clients, and plans on being active in the community. Her past affiliations include service with United Way, Rotary, Kiwanis and several chamber of commerce organizations.

"I like to be involved in the community," she said.

Her husband, Ken, is a project manager for US Centrifuge, a manufacturing company based in Indianapolis. The couple have a daughter and son.
