TRAVERSE CITY -- City commissioners soon will decide whether to hire a consultant team to plan a bayfront overhaul.
Commissioners are expected to decide next week whether to approve a $100,000 contract with URS - Great Lakes, of Grand Rapids. Consultants would perform preliminary design and engineering for an expected multi-million dollar face-lift to the shoreline along Traverse City's West Grand Traverse Bay, including the former zoo property.
Twelve companies submitted bids that ranged between $80,000 and $100,000. City officials interviewed representatives from four firms and recommended URS based on its expertise, despite it being the high bidder, according to city documents.
Commissioners will meet Monday at 7 p.m. at the Governmental Center, 400 Boardman Ave., in Traverse City.
