TRAVERSE CITY -- Brenden Nolte did not expect to include an umbrella with his Halloween costume.
But Brenden, 8, might need one to keep his circus trainer outfit dry on Saturday.
"We'll still go if it rains," said Scott Nolte, Brenden's father. "We've gone trick-or-treating in the rain before. We'll just have to remember our umbrella."
Brenden's brother, Micah, 6, said rain won't keep him from his favorite Halloween tradition -- filling his basket with Hershey's Chocolate candy bars.
Some trick-or-treaters might have to cut their candy route short, since meteorologists predict rain showers and high winds to blow through the region this weekend.
"It's not going to be very pleasant on Saturday," said Jeff Halblaub, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service station in Gaylord.
Rain showers also are expected to dampen today's Traverse City Downtown Halloween Walk, which runs from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
A front coming in from Colorado will bring with it isolated rain showers and warm temperatures today, Halblaub said. Temperatures could reach the high 50s, which he said is above average for this time of year.
But with wind gusts projected to top out at 25 mph, conditions will not be ideal for pirates or ghosts.
Nearly 500 trick-or-treaters flooded downtown Traverse City for pre-Halloween streets last year, and Wendy Icard expects similar numbers today.
The extra foot traffic does not always result in additional sales, but Icard, owner of The Chocolate Den, said the event is beneficial for the entire community.
Icard will not send any kids home empty-handed today as she stocked up on candy corn and gummy pumpkins.
