Randy Agruda of Traverse City has been appointed to a third term on the board of the Michigan Fire Fighters Training Council.

The council sets the curriculum and standards firefighters throughout the state.

Agruda represents the Michigan Municipal League and Michigan Townships Association; he also is a lieutenant for the Grand Traverse Metro

The Women's Resource Center received a $5,000 grant from the Toys R Us Children's Fund.

The grant will be used to assist children by providing emergency housing and longer term housing options for families experiencing violence in the home.

The Mills Community House Association has received a minigrant from the Michigan Council for Cultural Arts and Affairs and Northsky NonProfit Network for a presentation of "American Document," created by Martha Graham.

The work is being adapted and directed by Gretchen Eichenberger as the keynote program for the Mills House 100th anniversary and will be presented Aug. 27-28.

Winners in the first Elk Rapids YouTube Film Festival have been announced.

Bridget Granger, Casey Granger, Paige Granger and Brianna Reinhart won the high school category for "The Beast Terrorizes Elk Rapids."

A.J. Reinhart won the middle school category for "The Search for the Black Pearl." Olivia Travis won the elementary school category for "Tennis in Elk Rapids Anyone?"
