Art classes start

Frankfort — New summer classes kick off Thursday, June 21, at the Oliver Art Center, 132 Coast Guard Road, with "Knife Skills."

Additional classes are: Wabi Sabi Books June 23; Kids' Watercolor Painting Workshop June 25-27; Acrylics 101 June 26; Painting Tablescapes June 28-29; Ceramics Workshop July 2-3 and 16; and Painting with Impact-Composition Workshop July 9-11.

Free concert series

Petoskey — The Charlotte Ross Lee Concerts in the Park continue on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday through Aug. 17.

Concerts start at 12:15 p.m. at the Gazebo in Pennsylvania Park. In bad weather, the concerts will be at Crooked Tree Arts Center, 461 E. Mitchell St. For details or a schedule, visit crookedtree.org.

Junior cheer clinic

Traverse City — The Traverse City West Senior High School Cheer Team will sponsor a Titan Junior Cheer Clinic Friday and Saturday, June 22-23.

The clinic, for children in pre-K through fifth grades, meets from 9 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. each day at West Senior High, 5376 N. Long Lake Road. The cost is $35 or $55 for a family of two.

Participants receive a T-shirt to wear while they march with the team in the Cherry Festival Junior Royale Parade; email titancheerleading@hotmail.com.

GTBA-MEA meet

Traverse City — Reservations are due noon Friday, June 22, for the Tuesday, June 26, meeting of the Grand Traverse Bay Area-MEA-Retired.

Goat skill swap

East Jordan — ISLAND and the Martha Wagbo Farm and Education Center will offer a Goat Skill Swap Saturday, June 23.

Pancake supper

Arcadia — The Pleasant Valley Community Center, 3586 Glovers Lake Road, will hold a pancake supper to raise money for building renovations.

Kids' music, art

Traverse City — Children's Art & The Garden will be hosted Saturday, June 23.

Traverse City — The Northern Michigan Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will meet on Saturday, June 23.

Traverse City — The Traverse City Masonic Temple will share its more than 140-year history with the community at a Sunday, June 24, open house and chicken dinner.

TSO strings camp

Traverse City — The Traverse Symphony Orchestra will offer Civic strings camps for players of all ages and skill levels.

"Beat the Heat with the Beatles" runs Monday through Friday, June 25-29, for players with at least three years of experience. "The Lives of the Famous Composers" meets Monday through Friday, July 16-20, and is for players with one to three years experience.

Disc golf for kids

Kalkaska — The Kalkaska County Library will hold a Disc Golf for Kids event Tuesday, June 26, for children 8 and older.

Traverse City — NMC dance instructor Dorothy Eisenstein will lead a "Creativity and Movement" workshop at Andre's Place.

Traverse City — The theme for the 30th annual Gladhander is "'80s Rewind."

Host families sought

Traverse City — Aspect Foundation and American Councils for International Education need host families for exchange students for the 2012-13 school year.
