Several readers identified Al Kidder as the man in the History Center of Traverse City archive photo that appeared in the Community section on July 2, right.

Pete Strom of Traverse City said Kidder was a optometrist who had a shop and lab on State Street in Traverse City. He said Kidder was very active in the community in the late ’40s, ’50s and ’60s. Ric Kies said Kidder took care of his glasses as a child. Kies also recalled that his eye doctor’s wife, Hazel Kidder was his teacher in third and fifth grade. Kies said she taught at the old Elmwood School and later Willow Hill Elementary.
