• Oldrich Farsky, one of the most noted of the present day artists, who for more than four years has made his home in this city, left Tuesday for Chicago, his old home, accompanied by his family. Mr. Farsky, at his departure, spoke very highly of Traverse City, stating that he had made many friends here and that he had been very happy here.
• With ideal weather, the Adventist campers are enjoying life on the campgrounds to the fullest extent. Each day takes on added interest. Many of the ministers and delegates express themselves as being much pleased with Traverse City and especially with the beautiful surrounding country. New campers have recently arrived from West Branch, Frankfort, Manistee, Reed City, Mesick and from Pennsylvania.
• Mayor E. Wilhelm and son, Hanley, will leave for Chicago this week where Mr. Wilhelm will make heavy purchases of various lines of ladies and gentlemen's ready-to-wear garments, dry goods, etc. Mr. Wilhelm's intention is to again engage in business after a year's rest. His son will be associated with him. He has not yet decided upon his various managers but will employ none but the most competent salespeople.
• Miss Mary Mildred Ryan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Ryan, was united in marriage last night to James Garland, son of Mrs. James Garland, the ceremony taking place in the new home of the bridal couple, 724 Sixth Street. The bride was charmingly gowned in white hand-embroidered batiste and carried a show bouquet of white sweet peas. There were about 50 guests present, many being from out of town.
• Mrs. E. M. Parmeter of Bingham entertained about 25 old schoolmates at her home yesterday, the ladies all of whom reside in this city, leaving on the morning train and returning in the evening. The ladies were accompanied by baskets which contained a feast of good things.
These schoolgirls meet once each year in reunion, visiting at the various home among them. Mrs. Parmeter was fortunate in securing them for this year.
• The Mayfield Sunday school picnic at Arbutus Lake was a recent event of great pleasure. Brightly decorated wagons took the people to the Halliday cottage where a bountiful dinner was served to about 80 people. Various contests were engaged in during the afternoon, chief of which was the baseball game between the ladies and the men. The ladies winning the game. Boating was also enjoyed and a picture of the crowd was taken.
• Mr. Howe and family and Mr. Bagley and family, residents at Old Mission, took there dinner on the bay shore last Sunday. It was a fine, cool day for a picnic which made it a most pleasant afternoon for them.
• Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Bates drove out from their home in West Almira to Benzonia last Tuesday on a visit to Mr. and Mrs. Custer Higgins. They took in the carnival at Frankfort which was very appealing and drew a very large crowd.
• Men arrived Monday from Cadillac and commenced laying the walls of the new town hall at Ivan. The citizens of that village are excited and looking forward to when the building is completed, giving them accommodations for meetings, offices and community social activities.
• The home of P. H. Bogart at Kinglsey was the scene of much enjoyment August 26th, it being the Bogart's 37th wedding anniversary and Mrs. Bogart's 57th birthday. About 35 friends and relatives gathered and took possession of the home. A lunch was served and Mr. and Mrs. Bogart were presented with a number of beautiful and useful presents. Mr. and Mrs. Tedman of Summitt City rendered some fine music after which the party repaired to their homes wishing Mr. and Mrs. Bogart as many more years in the milestone of life.
• Crops are looking good and farmers throughout the county are having threshing done. The county roads are getting some needed graveling and underbrush cutting. County residents all say that good roads is what they need.
• Advice on deportment. A gentleman never smokes in the presence of a lady.
• Medical advice of a century ago. A syrup of lemons is a fine addition to drinks in fever cases and good to disguise the taste of medicines.
• Best buy of the week. Handsome Bed Couch, $8.75 at J. W. Slater.
