Circus is in town

East Jordan — The Culpepper & Merriweather Circus will give performances under the Big Top Wednesday, June 27, at East Jordan Community Park.

The community can watch the Big Top go up between 9 and 10 a.m. and then stay for a free tour. Show times are 5 and 7:30 p.m.

Advance tickets are $9 for adults and $6 for children ages 2-12 at Save-A-Lot, Essence Hair Salon and East Jordan Area Chamber of Commerce.

Tickets at the gate are $12 for adults and $7 for children. The box office and midway open at 4 p.m.

'Re-Fashion' Show

Frankfort — A group of more than 20 artists will model fashions created from recyclables at the Oliver Art Center's "Re-Fashion Show."

The show will start at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at the Garden Theater. Tickets are $20. Proceeds benefit the art center. Call 352-4151 or visit oliverartcenterfrankfort.org for details.

Outdoor concerts

Traverse City — The Northwestern Michigan College Concert Band will give four concerts featuring the music of the Civil War.

The schedule is: 7:30 p.m. June 28, Music House Museum, Acme; rain location Howe Arena at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center, Traverse City; 1 p.m. July 9, National Cherry Festival; 7:30 p.m. July 19, Hull Park, off Woodmere Avenue, rain site Howe Arena; and 7 p.m. July 26 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions, Traverse City. Attendees should bring their own seating.

Call for photos

Frankfort — Artists can submit up to two photographs for a juried exhibit at the Oliver Art Center.

Entries will be accepted 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday and Friday, June 28-29, at the center, 132 Coast Guard Road. The exhibit will run July 4-17. For details, call 352-4151 or visit oliverart centerfrankfort.org.

Shorebirds art show

Frankfort — Michigan Shores Cooperative residents and members of The Shorebirds are exhibiting a special collection of art. The exhibit may be viewed Thursday, June 28, through Oct. 17, during business hours at West Michigan Bank & Trust, 501 Main St. For details, call 352-9655.

Library book sale

Beulah — The Darcy Library will hold the first of two book sales Friday and Saturday, June 29-30.

A pre-sale of special value books will be held 2-5 p.m. Friday, followed by the main sale 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the Trail Head Building.

Concert at art park

Thompsonville — Annie Gallup and Peter Gallway will open the Summer Sounds Concert Series at Michigan Legacy Art Park.

The duo will perform at 7 p.m. Friday, June 29 at the art park amphitheatre on the grounds of Crystal Mountain Resort. Rides for those unable to walk to the amphitheatre will be available at 6:15 p.m.

Salsa Party

Traverse City — The Grand Traverse Circuit, 225 W. 14th St., will host a Salsa Party on Friday, June 29.

Concert and dance

Alden — Grass River Natural Area will host a concert by Switchback and a dance Saturday, June 30.

The event will be held under a tent at Alden Depot Park, 10670 Coy St. Food will be available at 6 p.m., followed by music and dancing at 7 p.m. Short's beer also will be available.

Pure Americana

Bellaire — Shanty Creek Resorts will celebrate America's independence with a "Pure Americana Celebration."

Festivities will be hosted Saturday, June 30, with music, family activities and fireworks. The doors open at 6 p.m., with entertainment at 7 p.m. and fireworks at dusk. Admission is $6; free for ages 4 and younger.

Wine and art

Traverse City — The community can pair wine and food with art and music at the Saturday, June 30, Traverse City Wine & Art Festival.

Activities take place from 3 to 10 p.m. at the Grand Traverse Commons. Tickets are $20 in advance at http://traversecitywinefestival.com; $25 at the door.

Ice cream social

Elk Rapids — The Antrim County GOP will hold an ice cream social and cookout from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Rotary Park. Homemade ice cream, local draft root beer and hotdogs will be available for a donation. For details, call 944-4866.
