n The fall term of Circuit Court began last Monday afternoon with 7 criminal cases on the calendar. There are no probationers before the judge. Of the criminal cases called, all were ready for trial. Nick Doler and Joseph Conway, the former on a larceny charge and the latter on a charge of forgery have both pleaded guilty.
n Donation Day for the Bureau of Associated Charities has been postponed until October 8. Anyone who has clothing, bedding or household goods for the BAC is asked to call Miss Knee so that the route for gathering up supplies may be arranged before that date.
n Dr. Margaret MacKellar, a resident of Grawn, left Wednesday for a two months' trip. She will address meetings of the Woman's Foreign Missionary societies of the Presbyterian church of Canada, going as far west as Manitoba and east to Quebec.
n Miss Claribel Wilhelm left last week for Ypsilanti where she will enter the normal. She has spent the summer being with her family in this city.
n The sailboat in which Warren Johnson of the peninsula went out for a sail last Sunday and never returned was found last night by Ralph Kitchen, about nine miles north of the Frank Grubb farm on the east arm of the bay. It is now a question as to whether the occupant was drowned or abandoned the craft without returning home.
n Mr. and Mrs. Cosselman of Buckley have returned to their home. They had been in charge of the resort at Duck Lake this past summer.
n A small barn belonging to Joseph Rumbth, a farmer at Hatches Crossing, was destroyed by fire last evening, together with all its contents, including three horses and three head of cattle. It is not known how the fire originated as there was no fire in the vicinity of the building during the day. The loss will be covered by insurance.
n A. M. Williams, local manager of the Bell Telephone Company, will begin a six weeks' vacation tomorrow. This will be the first he has had in five years and he is looking forward to time away.
n Bert Ward left last Monday as a delegate to the Bull Moose convention at Lansing. He will also visit his sons, Lawrence at Olivet College and Theo at Detroit before his return.
n Mrs. T. E. Brown of Chicago, who has been in the city for the past few days left this morning for Kingsley. She will visit at that place for a short time before returning to her home.
n Godfrey Kenwitch, aged 60 years, died at his farm in Garfield township Saturday night. Mr. Kevwitch was born in Germany and located in this county 25 years ago, buying a farm near Silver Lake on which he had lived every since. He leaves a widow and six children.
n E. H. Ellis and William Huyler of the Northern Construction Co. of Milwaukee, are in the city for a few days. The men are looking over the plans for the proposed addition to be for the post office.
n Advice on deportment. A gentleman may delicately kiss a lady's hand, the forehead or at most, the cheek.
n Medical advice of a century ago. Keep out of the external ear all things smaller than the forefinger or stiffer than a towel or handkerchief.
