Solar trailer powers parade broadcastTRAVERSE CITY — A solar trailer will power the broadcast of the Cherry Royale Parade Saturday, July 10.
The trailer, from Northwestern Michigan College, will be in a temporary control room near Cass and Front streets. The broadcast is being provided by UpNorth Media. The public access channel is at Channel 97 for analog and Channel 2 for digital on Charter Cable.
The building used for previous parades is being sold, and UpNorth Media wasn't sure how it was gonig to get electricity for the broadcast, said Joe Carter, program coordinator. The Cass/Front corner is near the judges' stand, and most participants perform there, so it's the best location, he said.
The trailer, which is part of NMC's Energy Demonstration Center, will have plenty of power to broadcast the 3½-hour parade, even if it rains, said Bill Queen, NMC Energy program coordinator.
