TRAVERSE CITY — Teens only, adults not welcome.
Young adults, ages 16-20, are invited to an evening designed specifically with them in mind.
Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department, in partnership with the National Cherry Festival and Northwestern Michigan College, will host a teen music event featuring Detroit area rap/rock group Critical Bill and the sounds of Squirt, local disc jockey intern from Real Rock radio 105.1 and 95.5.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m. tonight, with performances from 8 to 11 p.m. at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St.
Admission is $5.
Firefighters from five Grand Traverse County departments will chaperone the event, set amidst a backdrop of live fire scene videos.
"Where ever there is smoke, there is heat — that is our theme for the night," said Meredith Hawes, fire and life safety public educator for Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department.
"There will be a lot of fun, with some safety education thrown in as well," said Hawes, noting that a distracted driving simulator and distortion goggles that allow wearers to try to walk a straight line "under the influence" will be available.
Prizes, including the grand prize gift basket worth more than $700, will be up for grabs.
"Everyone will go home with something, we have a lot of great prizes," Hawes said.
