Traverse City — Sign-up and kick-off parties are taking place during June for the Traverse Area District Library summer reading programs.

The free programs are designed to encourage patrons of all ages to continue enjoying reading and their library during the summer. Benzie water tour

Benzie County — The Benzie Conservation District will offer a water tour on Friday, June 8.

The 9 a.m.-noon tour will start at the Crystal Lake public access site on Mollineaux Road. A $5 donation is suggested. Participants may bring their own boat. Reduced-rate rentals will be available.

Dairy Festival

Traverse City — The third annual Traverse Colantha Walker Dairy Festival will take place Sunday, June 10, at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons.

Festival hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be food, music, crafts, a Fitness Fair and more. Admission is free. For details, visit www.thevillagetc.com.

Visit Misty Ridge

Mesick — Misty Ridge Greenhouse will host its 10th annual Northern Michigan Garden Day 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, June 10.

There will be presentations at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., live music and a free children's craft booth. The greenhouse is located at 6171 N. 11 Road, off M-115. Call 885-2290 for details.

Watervale tickets

Arcadia — Tickets are on sale for the Wednesday, June 13, walking tour of historic Watervale. Proceeds benefit Benzie Area Christian Neighbors.

The walk will be held 4-7 p.m. at Watervale, 1244 Watervale Road, followed by hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. Tickets are $20. For details or tickets, call 352-9083.

Canoe, history talk

Historian Bruce Trudgen will talk about fur trade canoes and Michigan history Saturday, June 9, 2 p.m., at the Maritime Heritage Alliance, 13268 W. Bayshore Dr., next to the children's museum.

There also will be a chance to paddle in a 32-foot canoe. For details, call 947-8382.

Detour Bluegrass

Northport — Detour Bluegrass will open the 2012 Northport Community Arts Center season.

The concert starts at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Northport Public School, 104 Wing St. Tickets are $20 for adults; $5 for students; free for Northport students. They are available by calling 386-5001, at the NCAC office, room 202 at the school, or one hour prior to the concert at the ticket booth.
