n The situation in regard to the shooting of Harry W. Fischer was somewhat changed today by the arrival from Chicago of Attorney Spencer L. Adams and Martin Pattison, father of Mrs. Fischer. It was thought that something definite would be done today, either by releasing O. M. Arebach, who is held in jail here in connection with the death, or by getting out a warrant for his arrest. After a conference, an agreement was reached whereby Arebach will remain in jail.
n There was a farewell party for Mr. and Mrs. O. N. Segar of Lake Ann held at the hall in Almira Saturday evening as they are going to leave for Traverse City to make it their home. All are very sorry to have them go as they have resided in Almira for over 30 years.
n C. E. Lamb, a farmer living near Bendon, is constructing a barn and silo. They are both large, impressive buildings and will be handsome additions to his property. The work is progressing at a pace that will ensure its completion before winter sets in.
n Our correspondent at East Paradise reports that the fair held earlier this month at Kingsley was a decided success. Notwithstanding the late season, the exhibits were exceptionally fine and everyone enjoyed themselves to the limit.
n Schools were closed in the county last Wednesday so that the pupils and teachers could attend a fair held at Suttons Bay. Both morning and afternoon trains were crowded and the launch, Dorothy K took a large number.
n The Cooper Musical Comedy Company gave entertainments in several villages in the area last week. They sold various toilet articles and gave votes for the ladies each night. Mrs. George Purkiss received the largest number of votes and received a silver dinner set.
n Mrs. Achsah Mae Brown, widow of the late Frank Leon Brown, a brakeman on the Pere Marquette Railroad Company, who lost his life while on a run between Traverse City and Petoskey last February, has commenced suit in circuit court. It is expected that the trial will begin next January.
n Do not forget to phone Miss Knee, general superintendent for the Bureau of Associated Charities, if you have any articles of old clothing you can give to help the poor of the city. Especially are the children of these poor families in need of warm clothing to enable them to attend school. Any old clothing, a pair of new stockings or money toward a pair of shoes will be very acceptable.
n Advice on deportment. Never send your guest who is accustomed to a warm room, off into a cold, damp, spare bed to sleep.
n Medical advice of a century ago. A great majority of cosmetics are harmful.
n Best buy of the week. Ladies' and Misses' Extraordinary Fall Suits, $16.35 - $24.75 at The Barney Co.
