Christopher Hall, 16, has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout with Boy Scout Troop 34 sponsored by First Congregational Church. Hall is the son of John and Kelly Hall of Traverse City.

For his Eagle Scout project, Hall tore up the old gardens at the Old Mission Lighthouse with the help of his troop. Hall’s project also reseeded, replanted and restored gardens at the lighthouse.

Hall has earned the Boy Scout Arrow of Light and is a Order of the Arrow member. He has served as assistant senior patrol leader, quartermaster, troop scribe and den chief. He also attended Boy Scout Jamboree at Fort AP Hill in 2010.

Hall is a student at Traverse City Central High School. He is a member of the school ski team, Natural Helpers, Robotics and Engineering Club, jazz, orchestra, symphony and marching bands.

Alexander J. Flees, 17, has earned the Boy Scout of America Eagle Scout rank. Flees is a Boy Scout with Traverse City St. Francis Troop 31.

Flees is the son of Joseph and Kimberly Flees of Grawn. He is a member of Grawn United Methodist Church and is a student at Traverse City West Senior High School.

For his Eagle Scout project, Flees worked closely with the Michigan DNR on erosion control and restoration of Cook Lake in Leelanau County. His project required removal of an old wooden boat, tires and trash around Cook Lake to stop the sand erosion of an unauthorized boat launch. Flees accomplished the task while managing more than 35 people.

Flees has served his troop as quartermaster, assistant patrol leader, instructor and assistant senior patrol leader. Flees has also earned the Order of the Arrow Brotherhood, God and Church Award, Leave No Trace Award and World Conservation Award.

Flees was part of a local honor guard honoring World War II veterans and an honor guard for the Governor’s Holocaust Memorial Ceremony at the State Capitol Rotunda in Lansing.

Three Boy Scouts from Traverse City St. Francis Troop 31 were awarded their rank of Eagle Scout in June. They are Patrick Courson, Christopher Doerr, and Mark Fisher Jr.

Courson’s Eagle project was to build two new raised bed herb and vegetable gardens and repair two others.

The project will benefit the Life Balance Initiative program at St. Francis. Doerr’s Eagle project was to create a trail marking project at Twin Lakes hiking area.

Doerr placed trail posts and marked the direction for a four loop trail hiking system and cleaned up the brush. Fisher’s Eagle project was to install new pieces of playground equipment, benches and renovate the grounds at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center.

Kyle Dalton Ray, 14, of Wellston, has reached the rank of Eagle Scout with Troop 61 (Irons/Wellston) of the Boy Scouts of America.

Ray is the son of Donna L. Ray and the late Kenneth D. Ray, Jr. He has recently completed his freshman year at Manistee High School.

Ray’s Eagle Scout project was a community service project honoring the Norman Township Fire and Rescue Department in Wellston. He constructed a Memorial Reflection Garden that includes custom made benches.

He is a member of the Order of the Arrow, holding the Brotherhood rank and now serving as his chapter’s chief. Ray has served his troop as chaplain aide, patrol leader, scribe, and senior patrol leader.  

Ray will attend High Adventure Camp this summer. He is also training with Troop 167 of Manistee for their hiking trip to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico during the summer of 2013.
