TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse City West senior Alison Shrift has committed to play hockey at the University of Wisconsin-Superior.

Superior, a Division III school, plays in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.

For the past three seasons, Shrift has been captain of the Grand Rapids Griffins AAA team. The Griffins compete in the Midwest Elite Hockey League.

In 2007, Shrift was selected for the USA national development camp. She was also captain of Team Michigan and was a member of the All-Star team at Hockey Night in Boston.

Shrift has a 4.1 GPA.

Givens to lead team in state games

Team North could just as easily be named Team Traverse City, Sault Ste. Marie and Marquette. But Team North has a better ring to it.

13 area hockey players get recognition

Thirteen area student-athletes have been named to the 2009-10 all-state hockey team, including Cadillac's Mike Boike earning a spot as the Dream Team goaltender.

Bay Reps lose quarterfinal game in overtime

It appeared that the Traverse City Bay Reps might be advancing to the Division 2 ice hockey finals this weekend. But Mona Shores got the rebound it needed in overtime.

Bay Reps rally for win over Trojans

Jake Soenen cleared the puck up the boards, and Traverse City Central's season was abruptly over. The Bay Reps pressured the Trojans all game long on Wednesday and came away with an upset in the second round of the Division 2 playoffs.

Traverse City Central won a somber decision over Gaylord in its Big North Conference final. Central players wore blue-and-gold No. 17s on their helmets in honor of Gaylord hockey player Levi Coger, who was killed in a Dec. 13 sledding accident.
