Traverse City Central won a somber 6-3 decision over Gaylord in its Big North Conference final.
Central players wore blue-and-gold No. 17s on their helmets in honor of Gaylord hockey player Levi Coger, who was killed in a Dec. 13 sledding accident. Coaches wore the number on their coats and there was a moment of silence before the game.
Trojans defenseman Christian Machelski racked up five points in the victory, and Jared VanWormer added four.
VanWormer scored the game's fist goals off Lucas Little and Machelski assists before Gaylord went up 2-1 on goals by Nick Fennell and Regan Quaal.
Caleb Morgan knotted things up at 2-2 with 1:35 left in the first period off Machelski and VanWormer helpers.
Morgan put Central up 3-2 just 2:12 into the second off another Machelski assist and Max Schrank struck for a 4-2 lead as VanWormer and Harmon Grubbs assisted.
Trevor Mattis' goal set up by VanWormer and Machelski with 56 ticks left in the second made it 6-2.
Gaylord's Jesse Kelly added an unassisted goal in the third period for a 6-3 final.
Bill Vermetten made 12 saves for Central, while Gaylord's Pater Lawton had 23 stops.
The Trojans (11-10, 7-3 Big North) travel to the MIHL Showcase this weekend, facing Farmington at 8:20 p.m. Friday and St. Clair Shores at 2:20 p.m. Saturday.
