Organizers hopeful for Winter Carnival

NORTHPORT — Organizers of this weekend's Winter Carnival in Northport are optimistic about winter weather, but also have several non-snow activities planned.

Snow-related events include a snowmobile poker run, milk jug curling and a snowman-building contest.

Other less weather-dependent events are a chili cook-off, a water balloon toss and a frozen T-shirt contest.

Events begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at Braman Hill, about a half-mile west of Northport, off East Melkild Road.
