TC commission votes to rezone for CVS

TRAVERSE CITY — City commissioners rezoned property to allow a drugstore at a long-vacant Division and West Front streets corner.

Commissioners Tuesday voted 6 to 0 to rezone lots at the northeast corner of the busy city intersection to accommodate a proposed CVS Pharmacy.

The commission signed off on the project following a handful of comments both for and against the development. Opponents said it would exacerbate traffic problems at the intersection and eliminate the chance for significant design changes to Division Street. Supporters said it would significantly upgrade a long-blighted corner and provide tax revenue to clean up long-standing contamination at the corner.

The project includes a 13,500-square-foot store with a drive-thru window and a 56-space parking lot.

The pharmacy would create 35 jobs, according to documents submitted to the city.
