Rotary Charities announces grants

TRAVERSE CITY — Rotary Charities of Traverse City distributed 21 grants totaling $642,316 to charitable groups.

Grant recipients include:

-- Acme Christian Thrift Store, $35,000 to help complete renovations at their new store, food pantry and community space on M-72 east of Acme.

-- Child and Family Services of NW Michigan, $49,000 to launch a Safe Haven program in Antrim County. The program provides a secure method for single parents to have supervised visitations with their children.

-- Northwest Michigan Council of Governments, $35,000 to create an asset-based website for all types of trails in northwestern Michigan and the Grand Vision service area.

-- Read Aloud, $15,000 to provide funding for a parent awareness program focused on developing early literacy skills.

-- Traverse Health Clinic, $90,000 to provide interim funding as the Clinic makes the necessary changes to become a federally qualified health center.

-- Bethany Christian Services, $40,000 to expand the Safe Families for Children program. The program provides safe, temporary, volunteer host homes for children whose parents are experiencing a temporary crisis.

-- Foundation for Mental Health, $40,000 to provide funds for a part-time administrative assistant and to increase the executive director to full time. Foundation for Mental Health provides supportive housing services to the mentally ill.

-- Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation, $40,000 to build community relations, communications and fund development capacity for the organization.

-- SEEDS, $40,000 to support a development officer and strategic business plan and ensure the continuation of the organization with specific emphasis on the at-risk youth conservation and energy conservation corps.

-- United Way of NW Michigan, $40,000 to provide start-up funds for the implementation of 2-1-1 in our region. 2-1-1 is a hotline number for people in need of social services.

-- Alliance for Economic Success/Honor Area Restoration Project, $15,000 focused on improving the Village of Honor and restoring economic prosperity.

-- American Red Cross, $25,000 to provide funds for fund development and community outreach.

-- Antrim Conservation District, $11,927 to support community outreach, fund development and volunteer recruitment.

-- Benzie Area Christian Neighbors, $22,705 to increase organizational sustainability and fund development to better meet the growing need for services in Benzie County.

-- Communities in Schools Mancelona, $25,000 to provide board and fund development capacity and community outreach in support of a nationally recognized program to increase student success and high school graduation rates.

-- Junior Achievement, $13,500 to strengthen community outreach and marketing for the K-12 economic education program.

-- Leelanau Children’s Center, $12,000 to provide funding for the Parenting Communities program in Leelanau County, which uses peer parents and networking to support families.

-- Paperworks/Goodwill Industries, $20,000 for support to expand a regional and national sales program for high-quality paper products crafted by disadvantaged and disabled adults.

-- Traverse Bay Children’s Advocacy Center, $25,000 to provide support for a clinical coordinator position to help meet the increasing need for responding to reports of child abuse.

-- United Way Volunteer Center, $25,000 to provide funding for an outreach and training program for an innovative technology program that engages and manages volunteers.

-- Women’s Resource Center, $23,184 to provide support for increased board development, fund development assistant and volunteer coordination.
