TRAVERSE CITY — Grand Traverse Academy seniors are headed to Washington, D.C. for next week's inauguration festivities.
The nineteen students will join the crowds on the National Mall to watch President Barack Obama take his second oath of office and deliver his inaugural address on Jan. 21.
The group also will visit Arlington National Cemetery, the United States Supreme Court, and Washington's many memorials and museums.
Grand Traverse Academy Principal Allyson Apsey said the seniors originally planned to go to New York City on their student-funded class trip, but changed the destination after learning they had a chance to attend the inauguration.
"They were excited about the opportunity to do a once-in-a-lifetime trip," Apsey said.
The students are scheduled to return to Traverse City on Jan. 23.
