TRAVERSE CITY — A Canadian man is accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old girl from the Traverse City area.
The Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., Police Service said Canada Customs officers encountered the girl Wednesday as she attempted to enter the country in a taxi at the International Bridge. Police said they questioned the girl and learned she was involved in a relationship with a 35-year-old man from Canada.
Police said the teen and the man had worked together at a hunting camp. The camp's location was not disclosed.
"A relationship grew between the young person, who at the time was 15 years of age, and a 35-year-old male," police said in a press release. "An intimate relationship began between the two involving kissing, hugging and oral sex."
When the teen returned home to the Traverse City area, the two stayed in touch through the Internet and texting. Nude pictures were exchanged and a meeting was set up in Sault Ste. Marie, Ont., police said.
Officers arrested the suspect Wednesday. He's charged with sexual interference, sexual exploitation, sexual assault and possessing child pornography.
His name was not immediately released.
