- A white cow risked its life in front of a Grand Rapids & Indiana train last evening and caused much hard thinking and some strenuous walking through snowdrifts along the bay shore by Officers Gottlieb and Schneider. The last seen of the officers they were tracking the phantom among the lumber piles and snow drifts on the docks along the bay shore.
- At a regular meeting of the board of health held this morning, it was found that at the present time there is but one case of typhoid fever in the city and that not very serious, and only one case of tuberculosis has been reported.
- The daily weather reports for Friday, Jan. 31, 1913: Maximum temperature for the past 24 hours, 38; Minimum, 24; Snowfall, 2 inches. Official forecast: Much colder tonight with cold wave Saturday. Colder and generally fair. High northwest winds.
- The rain and snow of yesterday, followed by freezing, is hailed with delight by the lumbermen in Cedar.
- Theodore Sherman and son Port of Mabel went to South Boardman to work the rest of the winter.

- Grandma Leighner of Bendon is improving slowly from her sick spell.
- The Inland Grange enjoyed an oyster supper at their hall Saturday evening.
- It is said that the ice in the Straits of Mackinac is piled in massive blocks over the whole surface and as far as the eye can see, either from the St. Ignace or Mackinac side, and being swept clear of snow by the wind, it sparkles and glitters in the sunlight, making a grand picture.
- The Hon. Frank Hamilton goes to Bellaire Thursday to give an address upon the subject of "Road Building in Western Michigan" to the Intermediate Valley Fruit Growers associations.
- Miss Kruell, the lady expert roller skater who was to have raced with Will Vezina at the rink last evening, recently suffered a terribly burned arm and ankle, so was not able to perform. However, an exciting 10-lap race was pulled off between Mr. Vezina and Mr. Klaasen, with the latter winning out by little better than a lap and a half.
- Queen City Camp No. 154 Mystic Workers of the World will hold their regular meeting in the Odd Fellows hall tomorrow evening. After the meeting, a shadow social will be given, to which all Mystic Workers are invited.
- The people of Leelanau County approve of the West Michigan Lake Shore Highway from the Indiana state line to the Straits of Mackinac. They have but one suggestion: As the highway is to be a scenic boulevard it will be necessary for the road to traverse the two sides of the Leelanau triangle that border Lake Michigan and Grand Traverse Bay.
- Julius Beers, who has been spending a few days in the city during the term end vacation at the U. of M., left this morning with C.M. Beers for Chicago, where they will attend the auto show.
- The shadow social held yesterday in front of the home of Mr. and Mrs. Groundhog proved to be the greatest success of the winter, for there was constant opportunity offered for seeing the shadows from every angle, as the sun failed to effectively hide his face during the day.
